And he informs Deven that years ago he had tried to buy Mathura, Brac, and Deven from Tarek, but he'd refused. I thought it was really sweet though that he included Deven in the deal even though he wasn't his son.

Chitt wanted them all to be together as a family on his small estate in Lestari. That warmed my heart. It was brief, and a bit too easy if you ask me. I did like that view spoiler [ even though they were prisoners of Hastin in the palace, Deven, Yatin, Brac and Natesa armed the ranis and courtesans and actually went out to help fight the demon rajah and his hordes.

Hastin actually allowed them to do so. Now the final battle at the very end of the book made up for what the first lacked by a fair bit. It was reasonably written and wasn't over and done with in the first five minutes. Actually I should say it was a tasteful bit of action with some really cool ideas when you include the various bhuta skills used. I did like that part of the book with the exception of the ending. And there were even some casualties that make you sad.

Kali was a complete 'tard and went off to fight by herself originally though. I never had to do so much eye rolling while reading the previous books!! I'm a little hesitant to pick up the final one, except I must find out if view spoiler [Deven gets rescued from the Void he got sucked in when Udug went under the water and down through the portal hide spoiler ] I didn't like that the final chapter takes place an entire four months later though. I didn't see that one coming. But everything is too So that powerful a wish had some sway over her actions, though I won't say it was all just the spell.

But in the final chapter, the one that takes place 4 months after the final battle, Natesa and Yatin are preparing for their wedding!! And it's going to be held at the palace. Feb 27, Johanna rated it did not like it Shelves: kindle-unlimited , fantasy. Nothing will ever make me forgive this ending! The only good thing about this book was in my opinion the cover. It's gorgeous! The rest? Starting with the first book I grew more and more annoyed with Kali and to a lesser degree Deven this book only made it worse.

But that is nothing compared to the ending!!!!! Kali doesn't want to be one of several wives of a dude but it's totally fine and normal for dudes to have sev Nothing will ever make me forgive this ending! Kali doesn't want to be one of several wives of a dude but it's totally fine and normal for dudes to have several wives?! In fact, she even recommends it?! And really, has anything really changed? Maybe for the people with gifts but for women?

Some men obviously not all because that would be ridiculous do now accept that women actually have a say in their life? I'm so impressed! A set up for a Orpheus and Eurydice plot for the next book? Nope, I'm out, sorry not sorry. Yeah, I'm going to go and find myself a book that will help me over the fact that this book was nothing but wasted potential for female badassery Those are some badass women!

This book? Feb 13, Aimee Getting Your Read On rated it really liked it Shelves: fantasy , ya , part-of-a-series , adventure , clean , ebook-for-review. I am really loving this series! For some reason I was thinking that this was the last book, but no. Again I am left with my heart hanging because the ending? Absolutely nothing comes easy for Kalinda. Her whole life has been one struggle after another. It seems like for Kalinda, along with her little band of friends, there is no break, no chance to relax and no time to breathe.

Which is equally awesome and exhausting as a reader as well. The pacing is fast, things are always happening and I I am really loving this series! The pacing is fast, things are always happening and I love that but by the end of the book I feel like I have to suck in big breath and relax myself!

Because this is book three, these characters are like old friends to me. I am invested in them and I care about them. I'm ready to see some conclusion and resolution for them. I hope the next book is the last book. This is a series that must be read in order. It is on Kindle Unlimited if you have that! Content: violence, kissing, a fade to black bedroom scene with no details other than the couple wakes up naked together. All opinions expressed are my own. Feb 27, Rebecca rated it it was ok Shelves: reads , ya-series , tough-heroines , series-not-complete , arcs , high-fantasy.

My review is somewhat tainted: I have been reading these books for the last year and it was always marketed as a trilogy. Much to my dismay, I learned there had been a fourth book added sometime in the last few months. I understand that life happens and authors are unable to complete a story within the allotted frame. My advice - Don't market it as trilogy!

I have enjoyed each book in the s My review is somewhat tainted: I have been reading these books for the last year and it was always marketed as a trilogy. I have enjoyed each book in the series a little less. I still cling to the magical elements of the first book, which I adored. Kalinda can never seem to make up her mind between love and duty. Devlin is always willing to sacrifice his happiness for Kalinda. The song and dance is getting so old.

I am unsure if I will read the supposed final installment. I am still invested in the characters, but it feels like nothing significant has occurred since the first book. I've already done reviews of the previous books of this series. In short, the story of this series takes place in an universe where women are objects that exist only to serve men. Kalinda lived her entire life in a kind of convent where women are prepared to one day be chosen by benefactors, who comes to choose them to be their wives, concubines or servants. Rajah Tarek, ruler of the whole empire, chooses Kalinda as his wife. She will be the hundredth queen. Every time he chooses a new wife the courtesans who wish can defy this new wife to a duel and take her place.

And since Kalinda is the last, it's their last chance. I'll try to talk about this book without spoiling the other books. For me The Hundredth Queen was a pretty bad book. I thought The Fire Queen was a little better, but more of the same. And even if The Rogue Queen has a slightly different plot, I couldn't care less about the characters. But it's a triangle and it's not a triangle. I'll explain. The main character has always liked the same guy since the first second of the first book.

The problem is that she agrees with the opinions and strategies of the second guy. Just that. Of course this doesn't characterize a love triangle, but it's enough to create problems and misunderstandings with the guy she likes and I HATE this. A story doesn't need this subterfuge to make the plot denser or create some tension.

So it was an OK book. I began to read this series because I received this third book to review and needed to know the series. Besides, I chose to ask for this book because it seemed very interesting. But it wasn't. I can't stand Kalinda and Deven and their romance. I don't care about the political plot, which for me has been confusing and stupid since the first book. I realized that there will be a 4th book in the series, but I can't care enough to want to read it.

Review with spoilers: view spoiler [ This book was so annoying that even talking about spoilers will be difficult, but I'll tell you some of the things that bothered me the most. My God! Did I ever tell you that I wanted Deven to have died in the first book? I did, right? I mean, look for his brother. Come on! The "big" revelation about Ashwin was so bland to me It must be because I didn't care anymore. I didn't care about anything and I didn't care about the ending being ambiguous and having left open plot points for the fourth book because I don't care enough to continue reading.

That's it. Meu Deus! Jan 24, Aneta Bak rated it really liked it Shelves: netgalley , arc. This book had me hooked right from the first page.

There is action from beginning to end. Rajah Tarek has risen from the dead, only its not really him. A demon from the void, released by Prince Ashwin poses as his deceased father. In order for the demon to be free to release his master, he must make Ashwin's wish come true, which is of him ruling over their kingdom. With the demon posing as Rajah Tarek, no one will listen to Ashwin and Kalinda.

As war over the empire begins, Kalinda, Ashwin and D This book had me hooked right from the first page. As war over the empire begins, Kalinda, Ashwin and Deven must find a way to send the demon back to the void, before the world they know is lost forever. I am so happy with how this series is turning out. I love all the books equally, they are all so different but all very goon in their own ways. I adore Kalinda, and my opinion of her only keeps getting better and better.

After the demon breathes ice-fire into Kalinda, her powers aren't the same. Her once bright flame has turned green, and no healers can heal her from the poison of the demon. We finally see a darker side to Kalinda in this book, and it was absolutely wonderful to read about. The world building in this book was even better than the previous.

We see so many new places, and get a visit to some settings from the first book. The world Emily created sort of just comes together in this book, and it was fantastic to read about. The plot in this book was definitely my favourite out of all three books.

There was seriously action from beginning to end, and there wasn't a moment in the book where I was bored. Overall, this series just keeps getting better and better and I cannot wait to read the next book I'm assuming there will be another book based on the ending. I highly recommend this book to all YA Fantasy fans, especially if you loved the first two books.

Feb 27, Alaina rated it it was amazing Shelves: romance , fiction , favorites , february-challenge , dystopia , fantasy , kindle-unlimited , young-adult , mythology. I think I'm falling even more with Kalinda and her feisty ass spirit. I really liked her character growth throughout this book too and I found the soul fire even more interesting. At the beginning ish she's basically fighting for her life and dying because she was poisoned.

Then she goes into battle facing a d I received an ARC of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion. Then she goes into battle facing a demon, named Rajah. Kalinda and Deven definitely go through some challenging trials throughout the book. Some were pretty freaking heart breaking and yes.. I was super sad with the ending and I cried like a freaking baby. I think I will have a very difficult time accepting the ending of this book and I seriously need the fourth book stat! I hope that this is some kind of sick joke and everything will be different in the next one..

Now I'm sad again. I don't want to think about this ending anymore. I need more. I can't wait until August. I need to know who this book is going to be about.. Someone else? I received a copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Kali found herself trying to figure out if she should follow her heart or choose her duty. Overall, it's an action packed book which I quickly got through as it builds on its strengths and is good fun. Jul 24, Lindsay rated it liked it. The beginning and end were very good.

In person Daniels is like a C-3P0 whose preferences have been reset to charming and voluble. My wife would say it back. Also I percent guarantee that they will change the line before the movie comes out so that this scoop will end up being fake news. The only other member of the old guard on the set this time was Billy Dee Williams, who plays the charismatic Lando Calrissian. At 82, Williams has lost none of his roguish charm, but now it comes wrapped in a kind of magisterial dignity.

People tend to remember Lando for the deal he cut with Vader in The Empire Strikes Back, rather than for his redemptive comeback in Return of the Jedi, and Williams appears to have spent the last 45 years defending him. The original actor was Peter Mayhew, a seven-foot-three-inch gentle giant who was working as a hospital orderly in London when Lucas cast him in the first movie. Mayhew retired after The Force Awakens, and he died on April 30 at He told me all kinds of things about the moves that Chewbacca does, how they came to be and his reasoning behind them. Other things we know about Skywalker: We can safely assume that the Resistance and the First Order are headed toward a final smash, which will be a heavy lift for the good guys because, at the end of The Last Jedi, the Resistance was down, way down, to a double handful of survivors.

The Empire built and lost two Death Stars. But the stakes go even higher than that, cosmically high. Sources close to the movie say that Skywalker will at long last bring to a climax the millennia-long conflict between the Jedi Order and its dark shadow, the Sith. That was a deeply painful loss for Abrams personally, but it also presented him with an impossible choice as a filmmaker.

But then a strange thing happened. Abrams remembered that there was some footage of Fisher left over from The Force Awakens, scenes that had been changed or cut entirely, and he dug them up. He re-created the lighting to match the way Fisher had been lit. Bit by bit, she found her place in the new movie. And I never thought it would. The only other member of the surviving Skywalker bloodline— that we know of! Sources at Disney also confirm that his long-rumored Knights of Ren will finally arrive in Skywalker.

He also points out that, unlike Luke and Rey, Kylo never got to go on a nifty voyage of self-discovery. Instead he grew up under the crushing pressure of massive expectations. Their relationship is the closest thing the new trilogy has to a star-crossed love story on the order of Han and Leia: a source close to the movie says that their Force-connection will turn out to run even deeper than we thought.

Rey is also, according to totally unsubstantiated Internet theories, a leading candidate to be the Skywalker of the title, pending some kind of head-snapping reveal about her ancestry. Rey seems ready for it all, or as ready as anybody could be. When I was lifting rocks I was visualizing the rocks moving. And then I was like, Oh, my God, I made it happen! In some ways Finn has gone through a complete character arc already: he confronted his past—by beating down his old boss, Captain Phasma—and found his courage and his moral center. He has had a tendency to panic, if not actively desert, in clutch situations, but at the Battle of Crait he proved that he was past that.

Finn still has to make a clear decision about his romantic situation, though. Rose seems like the more positive choice, given that she stops Finn from deserting early in the movie and saves his life at the Battle of Crait, and that the precedents for romantic involvements with Jedi are extremely bad. Tran is the first Asian-American woman to play a major role in a Star Wars movie, and she has been the target of both racist and sexist attacks online. But she has come through them as a fan favorite: when she appeared onstage in Chicago, she got a standing ovation. Poe will have to step up and become a leader, because the Resistance is seriously short on officer material.

In fact, some of that transformation will already have happened where The Rise of Skywalker picks up, which is about a year after the end of The Last Jedi. The Rise of Skywalker introduces some new players, too. Going from being outside the Star Wars leviathan to being right in its belly can be a dizzying experience for a first-timer.

If anything, Star Wars is only getting more omnipresent. The franchise under Lucas was a colossus, but he still ran it essentially as a private concern. He could make movies or not, as his muse dictated—he was beholden to no shareholders. Between and , Lucasfilm released six Star Wars movies; when Skywalker premieres in December, Disney will have released five Star Wars movies in five years.
